About Us

Our Story

Altruist Fruiting began in early 2020 when a group of passionate environmental educators, scientists, and community organizers came together in response to growing concerns about ecological literacy. Dr. Elena Popescu, our founder, observed that despite increasing environmental challenges, many educational systems lacked comprehensive programs addressing sustainability and ecological awareness.

What started as informal workshops in local community centers quickly evolved into structured educational programs. Our first eco-school pilot program launched in September 2020 in three schools across Craiova, receiving overwhelmingly positive responses from students, parents, and educators alike.

By 2021, we had expanded our reach to fifteen schools and began developing our volunteer network, creating opportunities for community members to actively participate in environmental initiatives. The following year marked our first major partnership with Romania's Ministry of Environment, which allowed us to develop standardized eco-education curricula now used in schools nationwide.

Today, Altruist Fruiting stands as a leading organization in environmental education, having reached over 50,000 students and trained more than 1,200 educators in sustainable practices and ecological awareness. Our continuous growth reflects our commitment to fostering a generation of environmentally conscious citizens prepared to address our planet's most pressing challenges.

Dr. Elena Popescu

Founder & Executive Director

With a Ph.D. in Environmental Education from the University of Bucharest, Elena has dedicated over 15 years to developing innovative ecological curricula. Her research on experiential learning in nature has informed national educational policies across Eastern Europe.

Mihai Diaconu

Program Director

Mihai brings 12 years of experience in environmental nonprofit management. Previously with WWF Romania, he oversees our educational programs and volunteer initiatives, ensuring they meet the highest standards while remaining engaging and accessible.

Sofia Antonescu

Curriculum Developer

Sofia holds a Master's in Educational Psychology and specializes in creating age-appropriate environmental learning materials. Her innovative approach combines scientific rigor with creative engagement techniques that resonate with learners of all ages.

Dr. Adrian Marinescu

Research & Evaluation Lead

With a background in environmental science and educational assessment, Adrian leads our impact measurement initiatives. His methodologies help us continuously refine our programs based on evidence and outcomes, ensuring meaningful ecological literacy gains.
